For a lot of us in the CrossFit space, the Open is the “holiday season” where these five weeks represent a special time for our community.
We get together each weekend and tackle the week’s challenge – 18.1, 18.2, 18.3, 18.4, 18.5 – each time with the massive support and push from our friends and family!
But now that the 5th week has come and gone, where do we go and what do we turn our attention to?
The first step is a small mental and physical break.
Let’s take a week off from tracking food.
A week of lower percentages in lifting and reduced overall intensity in workouts.
You just went extremely hard for five straight weeks. Let’s take a week to chill and let the body and mind recharge.
In regards to where our attention should be moving forward, the answer is going to vary for different athletes.
But everyone should be focusing on SOMETHING.
Take a few minutes to think about what you want to accomplish in this “off-season” period.
Do you want to get super shredded for an upcoming beach trip or vacation?
Do you want to increase your absolute strength and PR a certain lift?
Do you want to just feel good in the gym and be able to enjoy other outdoor activities as the weather warms up?
Pick something to focus on. Set a date and let’s make a plan to get there.
All of the above examples require different nutrition protocols, so make sure you’re fueling yourself appropriately for the goal you’ve got in mind.
This “off-season” period can be a great springboard for growth – get excited and choose your path!
As always, reach out and let me know your thoughts on your path and goal for the rest of 2018. I’d love to hear them!
