You Are (Fit) Enough

He struggled to make it through the 6-minute warm-up. Gasping for air, his legs were burning and he had to stop multiple times in just the six short minutes of the class warm-up. He looked around, embarrassed, wondering if any of the other members of the class took note of how much he was struggling.

At the end of the agonizing “warm-up”, he sauntered over to the water fountain and leaned against it while trying to breathe. After quenching his thirst with the cold water, he said to himself…

“How am I going to do this? I’m so out of shape. I can’t keep up. Should I just give up?”
·
The truth is, this story happens daily in CrossFit gyms all over the world. This dialogue is all too common in a lot of our heads at one point or another.
·
The problem is, we tend to assume we are alone. That we are the only one struggling. That everyone else is much fitter or hasn’t gone through what we’re going through.
·
This couldn’t be further from the truth and it’s what brings us all together within the CrossFit community.
·
We’ve all struggled. We all continue to struggle at times. We tell ourselves stories in our heads that we can’t do something. We hold ourselves back. We self-sabotage.
·
In CrossFit, it’s not about whether you can or can’t do something that may be written on the board for the day’s workout. It’s a focus on what you CAN do. It’s a celebration of HOW you can move your body. It’s a challenge to be better than the “you” of yesterday.

A fit-looking twenty-something walks up to the older man at the water fountain and says, “Great job on that warm-up! I was really struggling but glanced over at you and you were just motoring through it. Thanks for the motivation!”
