Keys to a Healthy, Effective, Sustainable Fitness Journey

If we could get you to your goal in 3 weeks but told you that you would lose your progress after another 6 weeks, would you take us up on it? Probably not, right?
·
What if we told you we could get you what you want, but it would take 25 years? Again, you probably would not go for this option.
·
Thirdly, how about a moderate-rate process, one that takes 1-3 years but you stay sane during the journey, train smartly and safely, and maintain your result for the rest of your life?
·
Ah, now we’re talking! “How do I get that?” Well, the first step is understanding that depending on where you’re starting, it IS a process and it WILL take time. Be willing to embrace and enjoy the journey. Here are some tips to help you through:
·
1) Train 3-5 days per week, doing things we like doing. Maybe we hit 2 or 3 group classes throughout the week and mix in some hiking, biking or open gym time.
·
Having a fun variety of activities that keeps you mentally and physically engaged will result in long-term adherence. Long-term adherence = results.
·
2) Recover properly. Sleep, nutrition and other recovery protocols like meditation, massage, yoga, journaling, etc…These things are what gives us the adaptation (results) from our training time! Don’t underestimate them or blow them off. They may not be sexy, but they are beyond valuable. Plan them into your weeks and explore here!
·
3) Avoid the burnout. So many people go too hard, too often, thinking that is what drives results. It’s not.
·
We don’t need to redline every workout, every day. This is one of the largest areas of weakness in the CrossFit space at the moment – the thought and feeling that “a good workout” equates to being laid out on our backs at the end, seeing stars, not being able to function for 15 minutes afterward.
·
Instead, balance your intensity. Go hard 1-2 days per week MAX. The other days are for training and movement.
