CrossFit for Weight Loss: 3 Things You Need to Know

One of the amazing traits of CrossFit is that it has so many applications to such a wide range of people.

Wanna build strength and muscle? CrossFit
·
Training for a 10k? CrossFit
·
Looking to lose body fat and see the scale drop? CrossFit

It’s such a versatile program that can be used for virtually any goal or area of life. And it can adapted to fit anyone in their current level of fitness!

So why do you do CrossFit?! Whether it’s something related to the above or maybe you simply enjoy the competition and fun of working out alongside your friends, CrossFit provides the answer.

What we see is the majority of people coming to us at Brickhouse CrossFit and CrossFit Unify Roanoke have a goal, in some form, of weight loss.

Let’s face it, we have a problem – over 1/3 of U.S. adults are currently obese. These numbers are scary because the trend is growing. Processed foods, sedentary lifestyles, poor diet and exercise habits are all contributing factors.

CrossFit is looking to change that. In fact, we are leading the effort of prevention when talking about chronic disease.

So, if you’re in the boat of looking to drop weight – maybe you even feel hopelessly out of shape – CrossFit is for you! Here’s what you need to know to make it a successful journey:

1. Just move. Let’s get in the gym and just move your body. It doesn’t have to be the exact workout that’s written on the board. We have coaches that are experts in modifying workouts for everyone.

2. Focus on nutrition. No I’m not asking you to weigh and track every food item you take in from Day 1. Let’s just start becoming more aware of our food choices. Eat whole, real food. Things that come out of the ground. Prepare it yourself if you can. You’ll notice a difference immediately.

3. More is not better. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you have to workout 5-6 days per week to lose weight and then get deflated when your schedule doesn’t allow it. In fact, sometimes the added stress on the body of more training can hinder weight loss! We can make progress with 2 or 3 solid training sessions in the gym each week.

Whether you have 20 lbs. to lose or 120 lbs. to lose; whether you can already run a 5k or you can barely make it up the stairs – CrossFit is for you.

And we can change your life. But you’ve gotta commit. Not to us, but to yourself. Make that commitment to a better life, for you AND your family.
